  • Barenaked Ladies: Silverball

Barenaked Ladies’ well-tailored tongue-in-cheek delivery is by a radio-friendly sound that places its emphasis on sentiment and sincerity.

Admittedly, Canada’s Barenaked Ladies aren’t always in the best position to be taken seriously. For starters, there’s their handle, chosen when the group’s founding members Ed Robertson and Steven Page, two former school chums, tossed around ideas for band names after deciding to pool their talents. And then there are the signature songs on which they built their decidedly wacky reputation: “Be My Yoko Ono,” “If I Had $1,000,000,” “Brian Wilson” and their salute to…

  • Buffy Sainte-Marie Returns with 'Power in the Blood'

Now 74 years old, Buffy Sainte-Marie hasn't released a new album since 2008's Running for the Drum, but that will change this spring with the arrival of Power in the Blood. This album will drop on May 12 through True North Records. Sainte-Marie recorded the album in Toronto with three producers: Michael Phillip Wojewoda (Barenaked Ladies, Rheostatics), Jon Levine (Nelly Furtado, K'naan, Serena Ryder) and Chris Birkett (Sinéad O'Connor, Talking Heads). • Violent Femmes releasing first new music in 15 years for #RSD15 EP (listen to a song), touring w/ Barenaked Ladies

Alt rock veterans Violent Femmes have stayed active on the live circuit pretty much since the '80s, but haven't released new music since their 2008 cover of Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" or a new record of original material since 2000's Freak Magnet. That will change on Record Store Day (April 18) when they'll release the Happy New Year EP featuring four new songs, one of which, "Love Love Love Love Love" (penned by Jake Brebes), you can listen to (via Rolling Stone) below.

Violent Femmes will spend most of this summer on tour with Barenaked Ladies on their "Last Summer on Earth 2015" tour, including a stop in NYC at JBL Live at Pier 97 on July 1. Men At Work's Colin Hay plays that show as well and tickets are on sale.
