    Introducing Take On Mr Scruff, Manchester

    Mr Scruff's appeal has always been the consistent high quality of his DJing, with as much attention paid to sound quality and the environment of those dancing as to his selections and the way he strings them together. This explains why his hometown residency can currently be found at Band On The Wall, which – though an impressive venue with superb sound – is much smaller than Scruff's popularity demands. His association with the club is strengthened this new year as, from Friday, the venue offers Manchester the first two chances to hear Scruff's own music played in a live context. Songs such as the Moondog-sampling Get A Move On and, hopefully, Chicken In A Box have been honed by Introducing, a group of young jazz players acclaimed for their faithful live interpretations of DJ Shadow's sample-based Entroducing album.
